I’m Merritt Baynes! I’m so glad you are here!

I’m the artist, newbie ceramicist, and surface pattern designer behind Scarlet Soleil Design.

I’m a mom of 3 and former practicing landscape architect who found creative refuge in surface pattern design. What started as a hobby to keep my landscape architecture illustration skills sharp, blossomed into much more.

I’m currently live next to the Blue Ridge Mountains but I have lived in many parts of the US to include, Florida, DC, the South West (New Mexico), and I even spent a season in Paris.

I create mostly from my little home studio, but you can also find me at the local ceramics studio just over the mountain.

Whether ceramics, canvas, or digital, my artwork is a whimsical blend of rustic, modern, hand drawn folk art and traditional surface pattern design.
